Last Energy Hosts First Two Public Consultations For Llynfi Clean Energy Project

Company Planning Further Community Meetings In 2025 Following Drop-In Day And Project Presentation

Bridgend, South Wales Last Energy, a developer of 20 MWe micro modular nuclear power plants, hosted the first two of multiple upcoming public consultations for its project at Llynfi, near Bridgend.

The events, held on 27 November, 2024 at the Bettws Life Centre and 12 December, 2024 at the Steam Academy, Bridgend College, were an opportunity for Last Energy to engage with and learn from the local community about Llynfi Clean Energy Project, as well as answer questions about Last Energy’s development proposals. The first event was structured as a drop-in day for members of the public to meet members of Last Energy’s UK team and peruse information booths about the proposed project and Last Energy’s technology. The second event was structured as a formal presentation by Last Energy UK’s CEO, followed by audience Q&A with the company’s UK team.

“Engaging with the community is a critical part of the development process, and our consultations in Bettws and Bridgend College were the first of many more scheduled for 2025,” said Michael Jenner, CEO of Last Energy UK, a subsidiary of Last Energy. “Llynfi Clean Energy Project will play a critical role in providing 24/7 energy security to industrial customers throughout the region, but it will also unlock a sizeable investment in the Welsh supply chain. Last Energy is committed to answering the community’s questions, soliciting their feedback, and above all being a partner to ensure everyone benefits from the delivery of our plants.”

In October, Last Energy announced a proposal to deploy four 20 MWe micro-nuclear power plants on a vacant site that housed the coal-fired Llynfi Power Station from 1951 to 1977. The project will provide 24/7 power to industrial customers throughout the region and create an overall capital investment of £300 million. The company plans to source at least 10% of its needs from South Wales suppliers, translating to a £30 million local economic investment (not including business rates collected by Bridgend County) and at least 100 local full-time jobs.
